   I think this is representative of a larger issue, and that’s using the “nuclear option”, so-to-speak, to stop debate before it can start by attacking the source with the ugliest of all possible insults.

   In this case, calling Carter an “anti-semite” for simply pointing out widely-known facts about Israel. Forget the fact that Carter was the only president able to broker a lasting peace between Israel and one of its enemies (Egypt). Painting Carter as an anti-semite effectively halts his peace efforts, crushes his willingness to continue and will likely send him home. If I were him, I’d say “screw it” and enjoy the rest of his retirement with his wife in Georgia, which is, sadly, exactly what his enemies want.

   It’s the same with the Clintons. Calling HRC everything from “bitch” to “whore” is an outrage. But calling the Clintons “racists” was another example of using the nuclear option. Forget the fact that the Clintons are likely more supportive of minorities than any first couple in history. Forget the fact that President Clinton continues to fight against global poverty, which affects more minorities than others. Painting the Clintons as racists has irreversibly damaged HRC’s campaign and possibly the rest of her and Bill’s political careers. Again, if I were them, I’d say screw it; HRC should resign from the Senate, pull Bill’s office out of Harlem, and enjoy the rest of their retirement out of the public eye and without the ongoing betrayal of their so-called “fellow Democrats”. Sadly, something their enemies also want.
