More women’s voices needed

That was the message last month, at the beginning of the debate on health insurance coverage for women’s contraceptives, when New York’s Democratic Senator Kirsten Gillabrand took the Senate floor:

The message is clear; old, conservative men in Congress are incapable of focusing on anything but social issues. More progressive women’s voices are needed in Congress to get back to the business of running this country.

Same goes for the lack of women in state government. Old men in state and local government across the nation have been continuously out-maneuvering each other for the position of “chief misogynist”. Arizona seems to be the leader, with recent bills to give immunity to doctors who fail to give pregnant women negative prenatal information, to force women to prove the prescribed use of contraceptives for non-reproductive uses, and to make it easier to fire women for using contraceptives.

And now we know that the Tea Party is pushing a Rick Santorum version of America, before civil-rights and women’s rights existed.

When addressing independents they deny it, but the GOP is waging a war on women. Thing is, this is not the 1950’s. Strong women in government and in the blogosphere, including this one, are standing-up to the old men. Because of the war on women, more Democratic women are announcing their intention to run in state and local governments.

Progress will be made. This country will not go backwards. The radical right will sit in their cluster-f*cks and blame it on liberals, on feminists, on that secret-Muslim in the White House, and on those dirty, jobless kids protesting Wall Street. But in the end, today’s women will win the war – and this blog will help in any way we can.

conservative war on women

@gotallier Their arrogance is nearly as incredible as their entitlement. They're in for a long, difficult life of disappointment.
