If these folks weren’t holding political office, their idiocy might be amusing; but the fact is, the Republican Party suffers from group- think, and obviously can’t hear themselves when they spew their hypocrisies. The following are just a few of many Republican schizophrenic episodes:
After the Supreme Court’s decision on the Affordable Care Act Thursday, Marco Rubio had this to say:
“It is now unlawful for you not to buy health insurance. And if you don’t buy it, you have an IRS problem. If you do not buy health insurance, the IRS is going to be on your back and chasing you…”
While in March, the Atlantic reported:
“Under a GOP-backed bill expected to sail through the House of Representatives, the Internal Revenue Service would be forced to police how Americans have paid for their abortions. To ensure that taxpayers complied with the law, IRS agents would have to investigate whether certain terminated pregnancies were the result of rape or incest…”
Scott Brown had this to say:
“All we got out of this massive new federal entitlement is higher taxes, cuts in Medicare and additional debt at a time when we can least afford it.”
Meanwhile, according to Think Progress, The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center found:
“…the Ryan plan would raise taxes on low-income working families — those making up to $30,000 a year. That’s because, while he would extend the Bush tax cuts… he would not extend President Obama’s tax cuts for those with the lowest incomes…”
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) sponsored a mandatory ultrasound bill in 2011. Dr. Nancy Stanwood, an obstetrician stated at the time:
“It’s… medically unnecessary. Some politicians might see it as ideologically necessary, but it’s medically unnecessary, so the government telling you that you need to have one sounds ridiculous on many levels.”
After Thursday’s health-care ruling, Bachmann wrote in an op-ed for the Washington Times:
Democrats belong to “a party that believes that government knows what is best for your health care” and “comes between you and your doctor,” while Republicans are the ones who “will repeal this massive intrusion on the freedom of Americans and allow us to make our own health care decisions.”
These people really should buy their meds in bulk.
