In part 6 of my ongoing series I’m going to throw a conspiracy theory out there with the question:
Has Occupy been bought by conservatives?
Of course, I have absolutely no proof of this – its just a theory. But it would be the ultimate strategy for conservatives, the crowd with unlimited resources; pay to divide and conquer the left wing. And it seems that’s just what is happening.
When Occupy Wall Street started, many of us Democrats thought we were the natural allies of Occupy. We want many of the same things. On the other hand, the Occupy movement is the complete polar opposite of the Republican Party. The GOP represents virtually everything Occupy is against. And so all we heard from Fox News was that Occupy was made up of unemployed, unwashed, malcontents (and there was even the cry of ”stop raping people” from that dead guy … you know, that evil son-of-a-bitch that ran videos chopped-up to create a lie … I won’t acknowledge the bastard by including his name).
So what’s the problem with Occupy voting for Dems? If you’ve been following this series, you know that Occupy leaders are pressuring their members to screw with the election by voting for a third-party candidate or refusing to vote. Anyone can see how the loss of these left-wing votes, about 9% of the electorate, will harm Democratic candidates and help elect Republican candidates. This strategy by the Occupy movement will guarantee a Republican landslide victory. It guarantees a Republican in the White House, a GOP Senate majority, a larger GOP House majority, and Republican victories in state and local governments around the country. Romney’s new Attorney General will replace left-leaning federal judges for any reason or no reason (ever heard of Alberto Gonzales?). Add to this the 5-4 conservative SCOTUS and you have total, Republican domination of our country.
Imagine everything the Republican governor of Michigan has already done – taking over cities and wiping out their elected government – and extend that to all states. It can’t be challenged in court; with conservative judges in place and a conservative SCOTUS, they’ll vote with the right-wing every time (if they even agree to hear the case). Maybe Occupy will ramp-up their protests? Welcome to conservative-owned, privatized prisons. Or perhaps these conservative judges will give protesters the option of years in prison or years serving in the military (that actually happened to my ex-brother-in-law, although his crime wasn’t protesting).
Republicans are desperate. They must win big in this election. The party of good ol’ white boys and their subservient women know they’ll soon be outnumbered by minorities who typically vote for Democrats. They know their war on women affecting public opinion. They’ll do anything to win in November, and then they’ll do anything to hold onto their political dynasty. They already own the voting machine manufacturers, which we know can be hacked. Their voter suppression plan is in place. If Republicans win in November, they will be the ruling class for generations.
Ok, if this is the future we face, why would Occupy members risk it? What could they possibly have to gain? Well, is it too far-fetched to imagine conservatives would bribe someone for political gain? Is it impossible to imagine that some of the billions in conservative dollars making their way into right-wing campaigns might find its way into the Occupy movement? What would it take to persuade a protester to help divide the left? $50k? A hundred thousand? A million? When you’re out of work and desperate, could you sell-out your beliefs for a life-changing amount of money? Of course! People have killed for less. I say, every Occupy leader should show us their bank deposits.
Early-on, Occupy claimed to have members of the left and right joining the movement. Take the theory a step further and ask yourself whether conservatives could have planned to infiltrate the Occupy movement and divide the left. Not possible? Because everyone in the Occupy movement adheres to unimpeachable ethical standards, right? That’s naive.
Yes, its nothing more than a conspiracy theory at this point. But its one possible explanation for why these seemingly intelligent, college-educated protesters are pressuring their members to throw the election to the Republicans. There’s no way to know who conservative billionaires have bribed in this political cycle; they are way too smart to get caught. They meet in secret retreats and think tanks to dream and scheme and decide who can be bought. In fact, they met on the day of Obama’s inauguration to plan the obstruction of all things Obama. I believe the radical right has become so rich and powerful that they would use any means necessary to control the country, the least unethical choice being bribing the opposition. I believe that if Occupy members follow their leaders’ advice in November, they’ll elect Mitt, Inc. and his cabal of corporate leaders and right-wing proteges. But maybe that’s been the plan all along.
