Allen West: Just Another Republican Tool

Print Friendly

Poor Allen West- when he’s not suffering from paranoid delusions about Communists, or pretending he’s a female abolitionist, he spends his time spewing incoherent stream-of-consciousness gibberish. In a recent interview with the Atlas Society, a group formed around Ayn Rand and the philosophy of “Objectivism” (which ironically, is anything but) West stated (lousy grammar all his):

“Conservatives believe that every person who comes to America or is born here, they have a ladder that they are given as their birthright or becoming a citizen. That’s the ladder of success…

Sometimes you fall off of that ladder, but we believe that there is a safety net that is there, and that safety net is to catch you and get you to bounce back up and continue to climb on the ladder. That’s what conservatives believe.”

In sociology, West’s declaration is what’s technically termed: A Load of Crap. As I’ve explained in previous writings, it’s a fact that when the average person falls from that ladder, it’s usually due to Conservatives having stomped on their fingers.

From a near poverty level minimum wage, to “at will” employment laws, to tax breaks for shipping jobs overseas, the conservative objective is to maintain the class divide at all costs. For his part, Allen West is more than willing to carry the GOP’s water, even when it insults his own race. In an appearance on on Fox “News” West responded to an L.A.Times article that referred to him as:

“…the GOP’s reigning clown prince of umbrage-generating outrageousness.”

for calling President Obama a “proponent of slavery”. West responded with this little tirade:

“…for these white liberals to believe they can have this condescending manner toward black conservatives, that we need to have approval from our quote unquote, I guess “masters,” for us to be able to speak — see that’s where the true racism really lies… is with the white liberals who don’t want to see someone such as myself, that broke away from their dependency class, and is out here and able to possibly contend against them with the policies that they are promoting that is destroying the black community.”

SOOOO much is wrong with this statement; the first is framing his argument within the context of slavery… yet again. In one sentence he decries the “white liberals’ condescending manner”, and in the very next refers to his fellow black Americans as the “dependency class”.

RNC chair Reince Priebus calls the slavery rhetoric “semantics”; of course he’s not about to condemn the black Congressman who has become such an effective tool for the Republican Party. A couple of West’s other slavery gems:

“[telling] a crowd in Port Saint Lucie, Fla., where he is running for re-election, that Obama “does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American. He’d rather you be his slave.”

Declared Social Security disability insurance is “a form of modern, 21st-century slavery.”

Republican and Tea Party types laud West for his “straight shooter” persona, even when it’s b.s. he’s shooting. Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh had this to say about Romney being booed by the NAACP:

“If Romney Promised “Even More Blacks On Food Stamps,” NAACP Would Have Said, “Yeah, Right On, Dude”

Considering there are more white than black Americans on food stamps, it will be interesting to see if Mr. West is willing to use that in-your-face style against the De-facto head of his party.

David Swerdlick at The Root sums Allen West up this way:

“…he’s also got a reputation as an outrage merchant whose stock-in-trade is abusive, fact-free bombast, making him Exhibit A when it comes to understanding why the conservative movement is still struggling to recruit a greater share of the black electorate to its cause.”

  • I feel sorry for Allen West. He reminds me of the self-loathing, closeted Republicans who trash the lgbt community and pass anti-lgbt laws. Or to use a Glenn Beck-style analogy, he’s like the pathetic traitors you see in WWII movies; like the Jewish guy in a Nazi prison camp working in some “lead-prisoner” role to help the Nazis by informing on his fellow inmates and/or helping lead them to their deaths. In exchange, they’ll throw a few extra slices of bread his way.

What am I trying to say? West desperately wants to belong to the club of rich, white, good-ol’ boys who hate blacks. But to fit in, he must trash members of his own race and anyone associated with them, like Democrats. I can just picture the old boys saying, “I hate n*gg*rs, but that Allen West is one of the good ones. He knows his place.” Its so pathetic, this need to belong to a group that generally rejects anyone who looks like you.

West is probably the most volatile member of Congress. His temper is well-known. I believe its just a matter of time before he does something really stupid and leaves the Congress in shame.
