Conservatives – do a little research before you launch your personal attacks

In a campaign email I received today from Caitlin Schultz Gard, daughter of journalist Connie Schultz, Caitlin shares an email her mother received from a conservative blogger who, it appears, thought he’d discovered the next, great political scandal:

Dear Ms. Shultz,

sherrod brown and his wife connie schultzWe are doing an expose on journalists in the elite media who socialize with elected officials they are assigned to cover. We have found numerous photos of you with Sen. Sherrod Brown. In one of them, you appear to be hugging him.

Care to comment?

And here is the response from Ms. Schultz:

I am surprised you did not find a photo of me kissing U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown so hard he passes out from lack of oxygen. He’s really cute.

He’s also my husband.

You know that, right?

Connie Schultz.

Caitlin added, “By the way, Mom never heard back from that conservative blogger.”

This illustrates very vividly one of the fundamental problems with anyone turning to the political blogosphere for news and information. It is mostly comprised of hacks and lightweights with not an ounce of training, credibility, or accountability.
