Ok, I intentionally went with a salacious title which is not literally true, at least as far as little babies are concerned. Scientifically speaking, fetuses are not babies and Romney’s investment in a company which disposed of fetal waste following abortions did not result in increased numbers of abortions. In fact this title is based upon what the average conservative blog would blare if President Obama had done what Romney did. Admittedly, basing a title upon the usually overwrought and contrived ranting of the typical conservative blogger is probably not the best idea, so my bad.
David Corn reporting for Mother Jones has blown the lid off of Romney’s supposed non-role in the acquisition of Stericycle stock by Bain Capital in 1999. When Romney was being challenged from the right in the Republican primary this almost became an issue. The issue was squelched when Bain covered for Romney by claiming he left to direct the Salt Lake Olympics in Feb. of 1999, before the transaction was conducted. Of course Romney did not correct the record.
Corn has proof that Romney was with Bain and actually signed papers authorizing the Stericycle transaction. Bain gained tens of millions of dollars in profit from the transaction.
I welcome the reader to peruse the approximately 13.5 MILLION (pinky finger to lips) results one finds when one googles “abortion for profit”. Those links are dominated by right wing, “pro life” websites decrying Planned Parenthood and the “abortion industry”. What do they think of the Republican nominee benefitting from the abortion mills, earning money from the great holocaust of dead babies hand in hand with the grim reaper of innocents in order to enrich himself? (Man I would make a great propagandist for the right wing if I didn’t detest them so) I wonder if any of those right wingers are going to be in the least bit consistent in pointing out that Romney financially benefited from the very process they are so militantly against?
There I go wishing that conservatives would be consistent. When will I ever learn?
Finally let me clarify what I really think about this issue. Romney is an inveterate liar, and this is just the latest example. However the service provided by Stericycle is a necessary one and I do not begrudge anyone who had the foresight to invest in a needed service and make some money in the process. It’s just too bad that Romney is so scared of the right wing loony toons that he feels the need to completely surrender his integrity trying to prove himself to them. It is the fault of the rigidly inflexable far right that Romney is proving to be such a completely dishonest cravenly opportunistic caricature of a candidate.
P.S. The countdown for Romney to shamelessly pander to the far right flip flop from supporting to opposing fetal stem cell research by the private sector begins in 3… 2… 1.
