American Exceptionalism – Conservative Style

Conservatives’ claims of “country first” are already circling the bowl with the realization that their party could very well lose the election in November. Over-the-top, anti-Obama sentiments are punctuating the statements of the GOP faithful as they stand prepared to flush bipartisanship right along with their bogus patriotism, yet again, in November.

Huff Post asked a few Republican “patriots” about an Obama second term scenario, and here’s what they had to say:

“Grover Norquist pledges that he would immediately begin working on the 2014 midterm elections, foreshadowing the same type of adversarial approach that conservatives adopted after Obama’s 2008 victory.”

“Dr. Ada Fisher…North Carolina Republican national committeewoman and member of the North Carolina Women for Mitt leadership team said she would move to Israel if Obama wins a second term…I don’t believe Obama will support the nation of Israel. Israel will have to defend itself alone, and they are going to need all hands on deck.”

“Lori Hatch, a convention-goer from Oregon, said she would move to the Czech Republic.”

Sheila, a convention attendee from Tampa who would only reveal her first name, said she would basically disengage from normal society, “get out of the mainstream of all the things I do for the community and business and all of the charitable things I would do.”

Newt Gingrich…wouldn’t even consider the hypothetical. “That’s a thought so terrible I can’t contemplate it,” said the former House speaker.”

As Robert Reich put it:

“Republicans have posed the deepest moral question of any society: whether we’re all in it together. Their answer is we’re not.”

Then there are the lunatic fringe doomsday quotes:

“A second term for Obama would mark the end of America as we know it.

You MUST remain bold and fearless Americans, standing up for truth, justice and the American Way!”

That quote comes from the “Renew America” a website notorious for conservative crazies and the use of quotes like the one above, (which if I’m not mistaken, comes from the old Superman TV series). Sites like Infowars post delusional headlines such as:

“Government gearing up to take over the states.”

The “American Thinker” who literally does anything but, and instead regurgitates every extremist notion he’s ever heard, ludicrous or not, writes:

If Barack Obama is re-elected the United States will never be the same, nor will it be able to re-capture its once lofty status as the most dominant nation in the history of mankind.

Barack Obama and his fellow-travelers will be unchallenged as they run roughshod over the American people.”

Glenn Beck, obviously never short on psychotropic drugs, or free of their mind-bending effects for that matter, has declared:

“…under another Obama presidency America could become vulnerable to additional terrorist attacks and that the threats to Israel would mount as anti-Semitism rises across the globe. Likewise, record deficits, spending, bailouts, rising unemployment and corruption along with unsustainable investments (like Solyndra) will all boil down to disaster.

He added that the economy both here and abroad could likely collapse and that the Muslim Brotherhood will begin to see success as it morphs from Islamic militant group to the architects of a far-reaching, anti-Western caliphate.”

Where the hell is Nurse Ratched when you need her?

From the so-called conservative main stream, to the party talking heads, to the backwoods, paranoid fringe element, Conservatives are readily chucking their pseudo-patriotism and simultaneously embracing, if not cheering for, the spectrum of Armageddon. These self-righteous jack-asses who continually rant about “American Exceptionalism” are more than willing to chuck it all if they don’t get their man into the White House. They are neither patriotic nor American, and certainly anything but exceptional.
