The Etch-A-Sketch Strikes Again.

In what can only be described as a craven pander in response to the uniform calumny heaped upon him following the 9/11 feaux paux, Mitt Romney has (in effect) apologized and shown sympathy to those who are attacking our embassies while he denigrates the first amendment values which make America great!*

It took a whole 3 days for Romney to switch his position on this. That is an eternity when compared to other recent instances of Romney taking opposite sides of the same position.

Exactly what has Romney done to reverse course on the 9/11 blunder you may ask? Well follow along as we recall the statement issued by the Egyptian embassy and Romney’s disastrous response which kicked off this whole brou ha ha:

“The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims — as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions.”

In response Romney bloviated:

I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.

That attack on President Obama led to extended scorn and lambasting of the Romney campaign for not being truthful and sounding the wrong tone in the face of an international tragedy. Knowing that Romney’s initial take has proven to be such a blunder, we should not be surprised in the least that Romney has completely reversed course, saying:

I think the whole film is a terrible idea. I think him making it, promoting it showing it is disrespectful to people of other faiths. I don’t think that should happen. I think people should have the common courtesy and judgment– the good judgment– not to be– not to offend other peoples’ faiths. It’s a very bad thing, I think, this guy’s doing.

Remember that the embassy statement was issued prior to any demonstrations or deaths in an attempt to quell the rising passions which boiled over 6 hours after the statement was issued. Romney issued his newest statement (which goes much further in condemning the film and “sympathizing” with the mobs attacking our embassies) 3 days after condemning the President and by proxy the Egyptian embassy and after many attacks on multiple US properties around the world.

This reversal  proves (for the 37th time) that Romney is a weak knee’d pander bear who will cave on any issue he feels some heat on.  If the right wing looney toons think Obama apologizes to much what do they think will happen when a President Romney starts feeling the heat on international affairs?   He’ll suddenly grow a spine and discover his inner resolute steely self?  If you believe that, you will believe anything,  making the most fantastical outrages that can be fantisized about President Obama absolutely proven truths, while Romney flippity floppety foolery does not concern you in the least.

*This statement is absolutely true if one uses the logic given by Mitt Romney in his statement on 09/11. Therefore this statement is utterly false (even with the namby pamby “in effect” qualifier)… but as someone who should know once said: “what’s sauce for the Goose is sauce for the Gander” so oh well.

Hey guys… good to be back.  I slammed this post out at the end of my first shift back at work in about 2 months.  My daughter is thriving and if you heard about my mother passing and figured it was some kind of horrible life event for me… well it wasn’t actually.  She saw it coming and had it all planned out.  We were able to have the family there and she had exactly what she wanted at the end.
