1st, let me credit Daily Kos diarist TheNewDeal00 for posting this story in a diary titled The #Sensata Story Could Destroy Romney. That diary provides links to various sources which tell a story that is almost unbelievable with about 3 weeks left to go in this election.
Bain Capital purchased an American company based in Illinois named Sensata Tech. After buying the company Bain is outsourcing the jobs to China. The company is slated to close on November 5th. In case that date doesn’t ring a bell for you, it is the day prior to the election.
Not only are the jobs being outsourced to China, but the American employees were compelled to train their Chinese replacements! But, believe it or not, that is not even the worst of this story from a patriotic point of view.
When the Chinese trainees were bought to Illinois the Bain owned company actually flew the Chinese flag over the plant, and positioned it higher than the American flag beside it.
Can you imagine the rending of ashcloth and gnashing of teeth from the right if any business associate of Barack Obama caused the flag of a foreign nation to be raised higher than a neighboring American flag on American soil, in any circumstance? It flies in the face of American patriotism and is disrespectful in the extreme to the flag our men and women (whom Romney apparently can’t be bothered to mention until it is a huge political liability to further ignore) have literally fought and died for!
The picture of that Chinese flag flying over the American flag (and the story behind it) needs to have prominent display and be widely recognized as an indictment of Bain capital, and one of it’s major stockholders in the person of Mitt Romney in the next 3 weeks.
Don’t let Romney’s protestations that he has no say in Bain business fool you. He still holds millions of dollars in Bain stocks and it simply beggars belief that if he publicly (or privately for that matter) made known that he did not appreciate this business practice and the disrespectful treatment of Old Glory that the Bain suits would not do something about it. Romney will gain significant monetary benefit from those jobs being sent to China.
Just remember this the next time you hear Romney prattle on about how he will get tough with China! He will get tough on them by allowing them to disrespect our flag and feigning ignorance rather than standing up to them. If Romney can’t get tough on the vulture capitalists at Bain in election season over this story, how will he ever stand up to China, Putin, the Ayatollahs or the next crazy right wing lunatic congress critter trying to pass some weirdo piece of law?
The Obama campaign was able to make a very effective case against Romney and Bain with the Ohio company that had their employees build a stage so the big wigs could call a gathering and fire everyone on the spot. The commercial with the worker that describes how building that stage was like buidling their own coffins is credited with giving Obama the lead in Ohio. Do not pretend that if the shoe were on the other foot and an Obama associated business were outsourcing jobs to China, making the American employees train their replacements, closing the plant the day prior to the election and flying the Chinese flag over the American flag on American soil, that the Republicans would not make a BFD out of that. It would make the swift boating of John Kerry pale in comparison.
In fact wouldn’t it just knock the starch out of Romney’s shorts if the President studied up on this issue and tossed it in Romney’s face at the debate on Tuesday? Like the first time Romney starts blustering about China? (Another bright idea I have for the President on Tuesday is to wear a pink tie. Or pink cufflinks or just have pink prominently displayed. If those big tough NFL player lunks can do it for Breast Cancer Awareness Month so can you Mr. President, and it would be a great nod to the womenfolk watching the debate.)
I predict that if this story does gain any traction that Bain will suddenly see the light and forget all about the entire proposition… at least until the election is over.
Update: We’ve added a Sensata Plant Closing Countdown to our blog sidebar to keep this story out front every day until the election.
