Delusional: Gingrich and Santorum Thought Teaming Up Would Get Them Elected

pope santorumWhy is it that Republican candidates are incapable of seeing themselves as the rest of the country sees them? It’s an amazing thing – no matter how out of touch, or off the rails crazy Conservatives are, they firmly believe voters will embrace them. Businessweek reports that during the Republican primaries, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum were engaged in secret talks, both of them believing that if they joined forces in a so-called “Unity Ticket”, they could take Mitt Romney down. What kept their little scheme from coming to fruition you ask… get this – they couldn’t decide which one would be President. How do these people manage to be so hilarious and so scary at the same time?

Let’s forget for a moment that neither of these guys could even get their own partydonkeyhoteygingrich behind them; logic dictates that if you are a wingnut candidate, you at least attempt to balance the ticket with a lesser wingnut. Not these guys. What a perfect mesh of personalities those two would have been, Gingrich the serial adulterer and his mistress wife, schmoozing with Rick Santorum, America’s sex cop. And what would they campaign on? Well, a promise to rid the country of gays and contraception-using single women by shipping them all off to build the moon colony, silly. Yeah, that would have been a winning ticket.
