Kate Chase

Katharine “Kate” Chase is the Editor of the All Things Democrat blog.

Kate is a journalist, columnist, author of or contributor to some three dozen books, and a freelance writer whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Hartford Courant, the Los Angeles View, and numerous other newspapers and magazines. She has covered elections from the local to the national stage. Beyond politics, she also covers technology and the Internet, law and crime, science and medicine, psychology and sociology, arts and entertainment and yes, even cooking/dining.

Calling herself a complete news junkie, Katharine devours no fewer than a dozen newspapers online from around the world each morning to give her a perspective which American-only news too often does not. “Every decent journalist knows that using only one source for information is a fool’s paradise. Today, with the corporate media choosing to focus far more on Brad and Angelina than on news that truly affects our lives, Americans need to go looking for information. A good news article – or blog posting – should, at best, be your launch board to learn far more about any given subject. Use it to move forward, find differing opinions, check facts, and get the fullest perspective you can on topics that are vital to you.”

Besides her work at All Things Democrat, Katharine operates several blogs, the two most public of which are the national Cut to the Chase and the Green Mountain-centric, Vermont: Now and Zen.

Ricky Shambles

Ricky has written over a dozen short stories, a graphic novel (”Signifying God”), and is working on a screenplay with his brother about their grandfather’s journey to America and subsequent entry into WWII, as well as a full-length novel. He has been published online but has his fingers crossed for print.

Focusing primarily on speculative fiction, Ricky picked up blogging political commentary in January of 2006. Besides his work at All Things Democrat, he also runs the political blog Cause for Concern.

“And the drag queen angels are line dancing to “I Will Survive” on the head of every pin in the world. And they’re laughing. The angels understand the human condition. Ted Haggard does not.”

Ricky receives comments at rickyshambles at gmail dot com.
“Si, me gusta nadar y cultivar les plantas.”

Ralph Brauer

Ralph is an award-winning writer and the author of The Strange Death of Liberal America, described by Midwest Book Review as “Part modern political history, part lamentation for the abandonment of the liberal ideal in which ‘government exists to keep the playing field level’, part cautionary tale of the social ills promoted by policies that increasingly favor the rich, the powerful, and the corporations over struggling ordinary citizens.” His writing has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, In These Times and other publications.

“If we lose faith in the values of Liberal America we lose faith in ourselves, our institutions, and our country. If Liberal America dies, something vital dies with it.”
