Beat The Press: Play The Political Junkie 2008 Presidential Trivia Contest

Saturday May 31st, 2008

I have such confidence in you that I’ll bet my best cup of coffee that you’ll score higher than a Dana Milbank or a David Sirota on this trivia challenge at The Week Behind.

I won’t say you’ll score better than a George Bush, because he’d have to be able to read to take the test and… well…. he’s cognitively challenged (to say the least).

“Iraq War: Why Defunding Is Politically Viable”

Wednesday May 21st, 2008

One of our readers recommends this piece at Garling Gauge in reference to my post about the House of Representatives (almost exclusively Democrats voted nay) and its vote to reject the latest blank check George Bush demands to wage more war in Afghanistan and Iraq. (Thank you, reader!)

I think such a refusal is not only politically viable, I think it’s K-I-S-S and would have the support of the vast majority of the American people (since even former Bush supporters notice that for all of Bush’s previous claims to need the money for the GIs, our GIs and vets aren’t getting jack poop).

John McCain Channels Dr. Strangelove?

Thursday Jan 31st, 2008

The great folks, at Robert Greenwald and company, at Brave New Films have put together a new video remininescent of John McCain doing Peter Sellers’ timeless Dr. Strangelove role (or “How I Learned to Stop Using My Brain And Love Republican Candidates” perhaps?).

Check it out here.

Slim Pickens probably won’t eat his heart out over this (and if you don’t know who slim is, go rent a copy of Strangelove) though Peter Sellers MAY role over in his grave.

“Iraq and Ruin: 2008 Outlook”

Thursday Jan 3rd, 2008

Greg Mitchell, editor at Editor & Publisher and someone I admire highly, posts on his own blog about the very bleak outlook on Iraq and our continued occupation of that country, including why any hope of our pulling out is diminishing rapidly.

Go read. Greg is always well worth the time.

One Sky. One Climate. One Future. One Chance.

Friday Nov 9th, 2007

My partner saw 1 Sky listed on a lawn sign at a neighbor’s house today and I like what I see. Global warming/climate change/”the greenhouse effect” is not just a serious risk and challenge to us all, but also an incredible opportunity to recognize and reach out as global neighbors all under that…. 1 sky.

Check it out. Embrace the challenge.

Only deadenders can refute it.

Lift The Ban On a Military That Recruits Foreigners As Soldiers But Bans Gays

Tuesday Jun 19th, 2007

Check out documentary maker Robert Greenwald and the Brave New Foundation’s latest effort, Lift The Ban, an online movement to stop the insane practice of banning men and women who have much to contribute but get booted simply for their sexual orientation.

Citizens for Legitimate Government

Monday Sep 18th, 2006

This week’s featured site is by the multi-partisan group Citizens for Legitimate Government

The activist group was estabilished “… to expose the Bush coup d’etat, making him utterly ineffectual as a putative leader. This effort involves opposing his cabinet choices when appropriate (i.e., in all cases), making spectacular political announcements that remind the public that our president was not elected… supporting and contributing to the voter marches, supporting and contributing to the efforts to investigate fraudulent voting and non-counting practices in Florida, and much, much more.”

The “Bush coup d’etat” refers to the stolen presidential elections of ‘04 and 2000.  The site features a “vote fraud map” with state-by-state examples of voter fraud that helped Bush steal the presidency.

The site offers breaking news and commentary, a discussion forum, and an online research library of original works provided by CLG members and associates.

In the true spirit of activism, they also include a “call to action” page and a useful index of peace protests, organized by state.
