Forget the NSA, Its The Data Brokers That Should Worry You

The NSA spying scandal is nothing compared to the data mining that goes on every day. As a computer programmer for big insurance, my team and I used the data broker ChoicePoint to access your driving record, credit history, and medical records (which ChoicePoint stored long before the existence of the internet). – Read the full article

Alternatives to Facebook – Stop Paying Zuckerberg to Help Defeat Democrats

As my team members and our regular readers know, I HATE FACEBOOK. Their privacy policy a joke – they actually sell your private information and where you’ve been on the internet (presumably) to advertisers. In a recent article by Bernard Marr at LinkedIn, Marr explains how FB mines the content on your FB page and profile, tracks all the sites you visit outside of FB, tracks the sites where you click the “Like” button to determine your interests for advertisers, and has invested heavily in facial recognition software to track you on the internet from the pictures you and your friends have uploaded. – Read the full article

Zuckerberg’s Facebook Phone a Spectacular Failure

Gee, nobody wants Zuckerberg’s Facebook phone. AT&T dropped the price of the FB phone from $99 to the giveaway price of 99 cents. And the FB Home app is very poorly rated. Maybe people are coming around to what I’ve been saying about Facebook (here, and here, and here, and here). – Read the full article

Wednesday Protest at Facebook Headquarters

Tomorrow, Mark Zuckerberg will find his beloved Facebook, the company he stole, the target of protests because his right-wing group Americans for a Conservative Direction ran this ad with Republican Lindsey Graham trashing the President in order to support big oil and the Keystone Pipeline. – Read the full article

The Corporate Stranglehold on Bloggers

Frequent visitors to this blog know that we had some major site issues for the past couple of weeks. Naturally, our visitor stats took a considerable hit. Yesterday, after 17 consecutive days of unbelievably unnecessary fighting with tech support people at our hosting provider of over six years, who have unimaginably poor customer service skills, they finally stopped arguing, delaying and passing the buck, started listening to what I was telling them, and fixed the actual issues. – Read the full article

Another Reason to Boycott Facebook

Anyone who knows me, knows I hate Facebook. The company’s CEO is as crooked as they come. Mark Zuckerberg, the current CEO and the guy who fraudulently calls himself the “founder” of Facebook, was hired as a contractor to create Facebook when he was in college. – Read the full article

Friends Don’t Let Friends Veto Equality

From Garden State Equality: Mr. Zuckerberg and Facebook have made major strides in the past few years, turning the world’s largest social network into a more open and inclusive place for the LGBT community. We find it deeply disappointing that now he chooses to support Governor Christie in his mission to suppress our rights. – Read the full article

The Internet Against Michele Bachmann

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has experienced a difficult past few days.  First, news broke out that her Iowa campaign director, Kent Sorenson, had defected to Camp Ron Paul.  Soon after, Bachmann lost another top staffer, her political director Wes Enos, who resigned after he publicly defended Sorenson against charges that he’d illegally accepted money from Ron Paul’s campaign. – Read the full article

Facebook & Twitter still security risks in 2011

You may have noticed that there are Facebook and Twitter images in this blog’s sidebar that are not supportive of either social network. This blog has not joined the rest of the blogosphere and jumped on the Facebook/Twitter bandwagon, despite the ubiquitous, corporate promotions on virtually every TV and cable network. – Read the full article
