S. Carolina A.G. Argues For ERA

He didn’t mean to do it, of course; but in one paragraph of a 65 page amicus brief to the Supreme Court arguing against marriage equality, South Carolina’s Attorney General made the case for the Equal Rights Amendment. In that one paragraph, he tells the Supreme Court that women’s rights exist at the whim of State Legislatures (emphases mine): The framers of the Fourteenth Amendment understood well that laws governing marriage were the province of the states, which remained free to adopt their own views as they saw fit. – Read the full article
