The Democratic Governors Association alerts us to 9 terrible proposed state laws, proposed by the radical right, of course (I see the War on Women goes on):
NORTH DAKOTA: The state is getting in on the latest anti-abortion fad sweeping the nation: so-called “heartbeat bills” that ban abortion as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected. – Read the full article
It seems that when the country attempts to do something, anything, to combat gun violence, Second Amendment zealots will willingly trample the flag and everyone else’s rights along with it; patriots my ass.
There have been threats to shoot lawmakers, threats by gun manufacturers to pull their plants out of states where stricter gun controls are enacted, and calls to refuse to sell to government and law enforcement agencies in such states. – Read the full article
“…men who so uneasily tolerate superiors patiently suffer a master, and show themselves proud and servile at the same time.” –Alexis de Tocqueville, Democracy in America

According to a report by the Idaho Statesman :
A man with a handgun used a tour for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as cover to inspect legislators’ desks and reach into a waste bin on the House floor.
…the video of the man’s actions shocked legislative leaders into exploring beefing up security. – Read the full article
This is the first idiots/oddities post for 2013; and although it’s been a while since I’ve done one, as long as there are Republican politicians and pundits, this little series isn’t going anywhere, so here we go.
◊ I find Glenn Beck to be one of the most obscene examples of worthless, ridiculous human beings making a fortune through media (yes, even worse than the Kardashians and the Palins). – Read the full article
Republicans all across the country seem to view their election to office as one big party in the legislative candy store. Kansas Governor Sam Brownback
“This new bill, known as the Heath Care Rights of Conscience Act and sponsored by GOP state Rep. Lance Kinzer, was signed into law on Monday…”
“The new law would bar anyone from being required to prescribe or administer a drug they “reasonably believe” might result in the termination of a pregnancy,” and could “open the door for a pharmacist to refuse a request for something like the “morning-after” pill.”
Women pharmacists need to start refusing to fill prescriptions for Viagra and fertility drugs claiming “conscience rights” then watch how fast legislators back-pedal. – Read the full article
This batshit crazy woman spoke at a hearing against the Nebraska ordinance for LGBT Protection. Its hard to listen to, but important to know that nearly half the country votes for Republicans that support these crazy views. Hat-tip to Wonkette for the video. – Read the full article
Well, this is a surprise. Many of you may not have known this, but the wacky state of Arizona was about to pass SB1083, the Arizona Special Missions Unit bill. What will it take to get Americans to understand that Conservatives and their ilk have one main objective: to divide the country by any avenue available. Gender, race, sexual orientation, income level, ethnicity, education, marital status, are all fair game for these people in the quest to achieve their legislative agenda. – Read the full article
