Volunteers Needed

Are you a proud Democrat looking for a challenging volunteer opportunity? Do you enjoy writing and sharing your opinion on politics? Then we want you to join our team!

All Things Democrat (ATD) has been a part of the online Democratic community since 2006. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to have worked with many talented writers. Many of them have moved-on to paid writing positions. If you intend to have a career in politics, journalism, or working for an issues-based organization of interest to lefties, having experience writing for ATD will make your resume stand-out . We write letters of recommendation for our writers applying for new positions after 6 months of successful work with ATD (one post per week minimum).

  • Entry-Level Writers: We have several openings for entry-level, volunteer writers (bloggers). We will teach you to become a great blogger and allow you to gain the valuable experience you need to make your resume stand-out. You’ll learn successful blogging techniques under the guidance of our editorial staff. Unlike forum posts, your articles will be published and appear on our front page. We’re looking for students, working adults, or stay-at-home individuals who are first-and-foremost Democrats (this is, after all, “All Things Democrat”), who have an interest in political news and issues important to Dems, and who can commit some spare time each week to research and write at least one article. Minimum time commitment can be from 1-2 hours a week, or more if you have the desire to write more articles. We’ll assist you with story suggestions and our editorial staff will make editing recommendations. In no-time, you’ll be an experienced blogger sharing important information and opinion with your fellow Democrats and the online community. Writers will use their own equipment (computer and phone) to perform duties; work from home.
Note: The period 12-14 months before the 2014 election will be busy, so joining the team asap and receiving training now will prepare entry-level writers for the campaign season.
  • Senior Writers/Analysts: Seeking strong, dedicated, politically-minded individuals to strengthen our existing team of volunteer writers. Must have an above-average interest in politics and enjoy sharing opinion and analysis of the issues with your fellow Dems. Requires experience writing for blogs, online magazines, or relevant experience writing on U.S. politics or issues. Must post at least one, unique article each week (no cross-posting) on current political news, issues, or topics of interest to Democrats. May post on current news or any area of interest that’s important to Dems. Writers will use their own equipment (computer and phone) to perform duties; work from home.
If you are a blogger for another group blog and not happy with your current blogging situation, this is a great opportunity to join a team that appreciates your efforts.
  • Manager of Election Reporting: We have one opening for a volunteer project manager to lead a team of Research Assistants who will report on Congressional and Gubernatorial races in the 2014 mid-term election cycle. This is a new project for the site and its extremely important that we get the right person to manage the project. Must be able to commit to the position from now until the 2014 election. The manager will assign reporting regions to RAs, delegate responsibilities, and may also help recruit RAs. Articles will be posted in the manager’s name, so this is a great opportunity to become well-known in the online Democratic community. Like all of our team member positions, this is a volunteer, part-time position (non-paid). However, we still need someone who is reliable and dedicated with excellent time-management skills. Ability to take direction and communicate often with site management is key. Manager will use their own equipment (computer and phone) to perform duties; work from home. Estimated time commitment: 5-10 hours per week. Serious inquiries, only.
  • Research Assistants: We have several entry-level Research Assistant volunteer positions available for the project on Election Reporting for Congressional and Gubernatorial races in the 2014 mid-term election cycle. RAs will collect information online or by phone. Most RAs will not publish, so blogging experience is not necessary. RAs will be in frequent contact with campaign staffers (by email or phone) and will represent All Things Democrat, so the position requires professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills. Seeking dedicated individuals with good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Ideal candidates must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. RAs will use their own equipment (computer and phone) to perform duties; work from home. Estimated time commitment: 1-3 hours per week for most RAs. More hours if you would like additional responsibility.

These are all volunteer positions that you can work around your schedule from home, school, or anywhere there’s an internet connection. Knowledge of html is NOT necessary.

Politics is a contact sport. We write partisan posts that are in support of Democrats and in fierce opposition to our political opponents. The volunteer positions we offer are only for those interested in taking-on the radical right in the political war of words. Of course, there are times when we are critical of our fellow Dems, especially when they stray from Democratic Party ideals and principles. But in the end, we are a partisan site for Democrats.

We already have several talented volunteers, but we’re looking for more to add to the team. So, are you ready to help us support Democrats?

Interested candidates should send us a note via our Contact page. *** Be sure to include as much information about yourself as possible, including the volunteer position you’re interested in and your background, education or experience. Serious candidates, only.

Note: All Things Democrat is not affiliated with the official Democratic Party/Democratic National Committee.
